At Holy Innocents we follow the scheme 'Essential Letters and Sounds' (ELS)- a DfE validated systematic synthetic phonics programme. Click here to find out more about ELS and how it is taught.
ELS is taught from the beginning of Reception through to Year 1. Below are some guidance sheets which include the order in which the sounds are taught and how they are introduced to the children using pictures and formation rhymes. There are also some helpful links to videos demonstrating the 'pure' sounds for each grapheme.
